Can a salaried worker permit lead to permanent residence in Luxembourg?

Unlike some temporary categories, time spent as a salaried worker counts toward settlement. After five years of lawful and uninterrupted residence, you can apply for EU long-term resident status.

That status is more secure and flexible than the work permit: it is issued as a five-year chip-card permit, allows work across all sectors without being tied to one occupation, and provides a basis for greater mobility within the EU. To qualify you will still need to meet conditions such as sufficient resources, suitable housing, health insurance, a clean criminal record and evidence of integration. For many salaried workers, this is the natural long-term goal of the pathway.
