How do I check my Diversity Visa entry status, and is there any fee to enter?

Entering the Diversity Visa program is completely free; the only official channel is the Electronic Diversity Visa (E-DV) website during the published registration period. When you finish your entry you receive a confirmation screen with your name and a unique confirmation number that you must save.

That confirmation number is the only way to check whether you were selected and to receive further instructions or schedule an interview. The Department of State does not notify selectees by email or letter, so keep the number safe. Beware of websites or agents claiming they can improve your odds or charging to enter.
