
The first permit is issued for up to three years and is renewable for successive three-year periods if you still meet the conditions. You apply to renew within the two months before it expires.
An initial self-employed residence permit in Luxembourg is granted for a maximum of three years from your declaration of arrival. If your business is still operating and the conditions remain satisfied, it can be renewed for further three-year periods. Applicants who already held EU long-term resident status elsewhere may receive a five-year first permit.
Renewal is requested from the Immigration Directorate in the two months before expiry. You will typically need to show ongoing professional access, social security affiliation, your personal income tax return, company accounts and corporate tax filings, and proof the activity remains viable, so keeping clean financial and tax records throughout is important.
