Most apply for temporary residence for the purpose of employment, tied to a specific job and employer, with a labour-market check where required; it is granted for up to two years.
Under Act No. 404/2011, the main work route is temporary residence for the purpose of employment. You generally need a confirmed job with a Slovak employer, and for most positions the vacancy must be assessed against the labour market unless your category is exempt. You also show accommodation, sufficient financial means, health insurance and a clean criminal record. The permit is granted for up to two years and is bound to that single purpose. Highly qualified workers with a recognised degree and a salary at the statutory multiple of the average wage can instead apply for the EU Blue Card, which is normally issued for longer and offers EU mobility.
