You can work freely during the orientation year and your employer does not need a separate work permit (TWV).
One of the biggest advantages of the orientation year is that you have free access to the Dutch labour market. Your employer does not have to apply for a work permit (TWV), which makes you much easier to hire than someone who needs sponsorship.
You may take any job, including part-time work, and you can also work as self-employed or do internships. Employers only have to pay you at least the statutory minimum wage including holiday allowance. This freedom is one reason the orientation year is often used as a bridge into longer-term work permits.
