Can my spouse work in Germany after joining me through family reunification?

Family members who come to Germany under family reunification are not limited to staying at home. A joining spouse is entitled to take up work, including employed jobs.

This right comes with the family residence permit itself, so the spouse does not usually need a separate work authorisation to start a job. Because the family permit is generally tied to the sponsor's status, it is still wise to keep the permit valid and confirm any conditions printed on it with the foreigners authority.
