You can do short-term study and recreational courses of up to 30 days, but longer or formal study needs a Student visa.
Visitors are allowed to take recreational courses lasting no more than 30 days, such as a short language or hobby class, and to do certain short periods of study at an accredited institution.
If your main reason for coming to the UK is to study, or your course is longer than what is permitted for visitors, you must apply for a Student or Short-term study visa instead. Trying to do a long course on a visitor visa breaches the visa conditions.
