Family Reunification lets close relatives join a qualifying sponsor in Hungary. Under the 2024 law, many temporary-work and student permit holders cannot sponsor family; reunification is available to sponsors such as researchers, Hungarian Card, EU Blue Card and guest investor permit holders.
This route allows spouses, registered partners, minor children and dependants to join or remain with a sponsor lawfully resident in Hungary. To apply you need documentary proof of the family relationship, proof of sufficient financial means and accommodation for the family, comprehensive health insurance, and valid travel documents.
The most important point under Act XC of 2023 is who can act as a sponsor. Many temporary-work, student and seasonal permit holders cannot sponsor family at all. Reunification is available to sponsors holding qualifying permit types such as researcher, Hungarian Card, EU Blue Card and guest investor permits — so your eligibility depends heavily on which permit your family member in Hungary holds.
Because the rules on who can sponsor have changed and continue to evolve, this is the first thing to check before making plans. ACME can confirm whether the sponsor's permit qualifies and help assemble the relationship and financial evidence, and we are glad to offer an initial consultation.
