Assuming a signed job offer is enough -- the employer must first prove labour-market precedence and meet quota, qualification and customary-wage conditions before a permit is approved.
A frequent mistake is treating a job offer as sufficient to secure a permit. For third-country nationals it is not: the employer must demonstrate that no suitable Swiss or EU/EFTA candidate was available (the precedence rule), that the worker is a manager, specialist or skilled professional with the right qualifications, and that salary, social-security contributions and terms of employment are customary for the region, profession and sector. Federal quotas may also be exhausted. Starting work before the authorisation is granted, or underestimating processing, are other common pitfalls.
