Can I be sponsored by family, and what does that involve?

The Sponsored Family stream is designed for people sponsored, usually by a relative, to come and visit their family in Australia. The Australian-based family member acts as sponsor and takes on certain responsibilities for the visit.

As part of this stream, the Department may require a financial security (a bond) and an undertaking that you will comply with your visa conditions and leave on time. This gives the sponsor a direct stake in your compliance.

This stream is often used when a tourist application alone might not satisfy the Department about your intention to leave. Sponsorship can strengthen the application but adds obligations, so both you and your sponsor should understand them.
