How long can I stay in Australia on a Transit visa (subclass 771)?

The Transit visa is strictly for transiting Australia on your way to another country. It allows a maximum stay of 72 hours from your time of arrival, and you must leave within that window.

It is not a visitor or tourism visa. You cannot use it to spend a holiday in Australia, and overstaying the 72 hours is a breach of your visa.
