What happens if I have not lived in Australia for two of the last five years?

If you fall short of the two-in-five residence rule, the longer five-year facility may not be available, but you are not automatically locked out. You may be granted a shorter facility if you can demonstrate a substantial business, cultural, employment or personal tie of benefit to Australia.

Where ties are limited, the subclass 157 may apply if you have compelling and compassionate reasons relating to your absence. The strength of your evidence directly affects whether and for how long a travel facility is granted.
