Nationals of EU-15/EFTA states are generally granted a C settlement permit after five continuous years of orderly residence in Switzerland, provided they meet the conditions.
The settlement (C) permit gives an unlimited right to stay and is the most secure residence status short of citizenship. For nationals of the EU-15 and EFTA states it is normally available after five years of continuous, orderly residence.
Although the C permit is open-ended, settled status is confirmed every five years. Citizens of states for which no settlement agreement applies may need a longer qualifying period, so it is worth checking the rule that applies to your nationality.
