Can I extend my Visitor visa or apply for another visa while I am in Australia?

In some cases you can apply for a new visa from within Australia, including a further Tourist stream visa, depending on your circumstances and the conditions on your current visa.

The key issue is whether your visa carries the 'no further stay' condition (condition 8503). If it does, you generally cannot apply for most other visas while you remain in Australia, and you would need to leave and apply from offshore.

Check your grant notice for condition 8503 and any other conditions before making plans to stay longer. Do not assume an extension is possible, and never overstay while you work out your options.
