Certain serious convictions can disqualify you, and you must authorise AIMA to consult your Portuguese criminal record.
For Article 80 permanent residence, applicants generally must not have a criminal conviction carrying a custodial sentence of one year or more in the contexts the law specifies, such as terrorism or organised crime. As part of the application you authorise AIMA to consult your Portuguese criminal record.
Having a minor or historical issue does not automatically end your chances, but serious convictions are assessed carefully. If you have any criminal history, it is wise to get advice before applying so the matter is addressed correctly rather than discovered during processing.
