Usually 5 years of lawful residence plus holding indefinite leave to remain (or settled status) for at least 12 months; spouses of British citizens can apply after 3 years.
The standard route to naturalisation requires you to have lived lawfully in the UK for five years and to have held indefinite leave to remain or EU settled status for at least the final 12 months before you apply.
If you are married to or the civil partner of a British citizen, the timeline is shorter: you can usually apply after three years of residence, and you do not need to wait the extra 12 months after getting settled status. Either way, lawful, continuous residence is central.
