The salarie card is for those on a permanent (CDI) contract, while the travailleur temporaire card is for those on a fixed-term (CDD) contract.
Both permits let a non-EU national work in France, but they track the type of employment. If you have an open-ended (CDI) contract, you receive a salarie residence permit, initially valid for one year.
If your contract is fixed-term (CDD), you receive a travailleur temporaire permit, also valid for up to one year and renewable for the duration of the contract. Knowing which card applies matters because it affects renewal and how long your status lasts, so match your application to your actual contract type.
