Under the reformed rules, after 27 months of qualifying residence, or after 21 months if you can demonstrate German at level B1.
The 2024 reform shortened the path to a settlement (permanent residence) permit for Blue Card holders. You can generally qualify after 27 months of residence on the Blue Card, provided you meet the other conditions such as pension contributions.
If you can prove German language skills at level B1, the qualifying period is reduced to 21 months. These accelerated timelines are a key advantage of the Blue Card over many standard work permits.
