
Yes. Indefinite leave to remain usually lapses if you spend 2 or more continuous years outside the UK, Ireland or the Crown Dependencies.
Indefinite leave to remain is not always permanent. If you stay outside the UK, Ireland and the Crown Dependencies for 2 or more years at a time, your ILR will normally lapse automatically.
If this happens, you may be able to return by applying for a Returning Resident visa, where you must show your continuing ties to the UK. Limited exceptions apply, such as for members of the British armed forces posted overseas. If you plan long trips abroad, factor in the 2-year limit, or consider applying for British citizenship, which does not lapse.
