From 8 January 2026, Migri introduced several application paths. The required period of residence ranges from four to six years depending on factors such as your income, your education and work history, and your Finnish or Swedish language skills. Choosing the path that fits your situation is the first step.
Time spent on a temporary (B) permit, for example as an exchange student, does not count toward the period for a permanent permit. Always confirm against your own permit history before applying.
