If you lose your job through no fault of your own, you can apply for a job-seeking permit - normally valid for up to six months - to look for new work, but you must apply quickly, generally within a couple of days of being notified.
The job-seeking permit gives you a window to find a new qualifying position rather than having to leave immediately when employment ends. It is a short bridge, not a long-term status.
During this period you must follow the conditions of the job-seeking permit. If you find a new qualifying job you will normally need to submit a new work-permit application for the new employer, because your original permit is tied to the specific job you held.
