Failing the self-support test or concerns about conduct, such as a criminal record or other misbehaviour, can lead to refusal.
Two main areas can sink a permanent residence application. The first is the financial test: if you cannot show durable income that covers your costs, the application is likely to be refused even if you have lived in Sweden for years.
The second is conduct. Migrationsverket assesses whether you can be expected to live a well-behaved life, weighing any criminal history or behavioural concerns. Even less serious offences can count when combined with other issues. If refused for permanent residence, you may still be granted an extended work permit if you otherwise qualify.
