How many years of residence do I need before applying for the Long-Term Residence – EU permit?

The Long-Term Residence – EU title (Daueraufenthalt – EU) is designed for people who have already built a stable life in Austria. The central requirement is five years of uninterrupted legal residence.

Alongside the residence period, you must complete Module 2 of the Integration Agreement and meet the general conditions that apply to settlement titles: adequate and regular income, suitable accommodation, and comprehensive health insurance. Because the five years must be uninterrupted, long absences or gaps in your permits can reset the clock, so continuity matters.
