You can work up to 48 hours per fortnight while your course is in session, and unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks.
The Student visa lets you support yourself with part-time work, but study must remain your main purpose. During teaching periods your work is capped at 48 hours per fortnight (a fortnight being any two-week period).
During official course breaks you can work unlimited hours. Students doing a masters by research or a doctoral degree, and their family members once the course has started, are not subject to the fortnightly cap. Breaching the work-hours condition can put your visa at risk, so track your hours carefully.
