Can I switch from a non-lucrative visa to a work permit later?

Because the non-lucrative visa does not allow work, some holders later wish to take up employment or self-employment. Spanish law allows modifying your residence status to a work-authorising permit from inside Spain when you meet the requirements for that new permit, often after a period of legal residence.

This change is a separate application that must be approved; it is not guaranteed simply because you already hold a non-lucrative permit. If working in Spain is your medium-term goal, plan the transition carefully and confirm the current requirements before relying on a switch.
