Category A is for employers referred by a designated partner hiring unique, specialized talent; Category B is for in-demand occupations on the global talent occupations list and needs no referral.
Category A targets innovative employers that have been referred to the program by a designated referral partner and need to hire someone with unique and specialized skills to help the business scale and grow. The referral partner vouches for the employer's legitimacy and eligibility.
Category B is occupation-driven: it covers highly skilled positions in occupations that appear on the government's global talent occupations list, and no referral is required. Both categories feed into the Global Skills Strategy's expedited work permit processing, but the qualifying basis (referral vs. listed occupation) is the key difference.
