After marrying, you apply onshore for a Partner visa (subclass 820/801), which leads to permanent residence.
The Prospective Marriage visa is a stepping stone rather than a long-term visa. Once you have married your sponsor in Australia, you lodge a Partner visa application from within the country.
This typically grants the temporary Partner visa (subclass 820) first, allowing you to remain while the permanent Partner visa (subclass 801) is assessed. Holding the subclass 300 visa generally means you do not have to pay a second visa application charge for the partner stage.
