The D2 residence visa is valid for about four months, during which you must attend an AIMA appointment to convert it into a residence permit.
Like other Portuguese residence visas, the D2 stamped in your passport is valid for around four months. It is an entry document that lets you travel to Portugal and complete the residence process.
After arrival you attend an appointment with AIMA to obtain your residence permit, which is the status that allows you to live and run your business or practice long term. The residence permit is renewable as long as your business activity and finances continue to meet the requirements, so keeping good records of your business is important for renewals.
