You generally need at least eight years of continuous, legal residence, but this can be reduced to four years if you meet all of the supplementary requirements.
The standard route requires eight uninterrupted years living legally in Denmark on a valid residence permit. You also have to still meet the conditions of your current permit at the time you apply.
The shorter four-year route is available to applicants who satisfy every one of the supplementary requirements (rather than just the minimum number). This rewards strong integration through language, employment, income and active citizenship.
