All applicants undergo enhanced due diligence and an interview; refusals commonly stem from failed background checks, banned nationalities, or using an unauthorised agent.
Every application is subject to enhanced due diligence, and applicants aged 16 and over must attend a mandatory interview. Applications can be refused where background, source-of-funds, criminal or security checks are not satisfied, where the applicant holds a nationality that is currently banned from the programme, or where the file is handled by an agent who is not authorised (the Unit publishes lists of blacklisted agents and banned nationalities). Providing complete, truthful documentation through an authorised agent is essential.
