The Researcher Residence Permit is for non-EU researchers carrying out research in Cyprus under a hosting agreement with an approved research organisation. Researchers may stay up to 12 months afterwards to seek work or start a business.
This temporary permit is centred on a hosting agreement between you and a research organisation in Cyprus that has been approved by the Research and Innovation Foundation. Lining up that host is the first and most important step.
Alongside the hosting agreement, you typically need a relevant advanced qualification — usually a doctoral degree or equivalent — a valid passport and health insurance, and an undertaking from the research organisation covering certain costs. The statutory aim is to decide complete applications within 90 days. As with the student route, many researchers can stay up to 12 months after the work to seek employment or set up a business.
Requirements and timelines can be updated, so confirm the specifics with your host institution and the Migration Department before applying. If you already have a research offer in Cyprus, ACME can review your eligibility and help structure the paperwork.
