How long is the Opportunity Card valid?

The initial Opportunity Card is a job-search permit valid for up to one year. That period is meant to give you time on the ground in Germany to find qualified employment or a qualification measure.

If you find a qualifying job but are not yet eligible for another residence title, the card can be extended as a follow-up Opportunity Card for up to two more years. As soon as you secure qualified employment, however, you are expected to apply for the appropriate work-based residence permit instead of staying on the search card.
