The Researcher Residence Permit is for non-EU researchers carrying out research under a hosting agreement with an accredited Hungarian research organisation. Family members may join, and there is a path to seek work or start a business after the programme.
This permit is built around a hosting agreement with an accredited Hungarian research organisation, which is the foundation of the application. Alongside that agreement you will normally need proof of sufficient financial means, comprehensive health insurance, an accommodation address in Hungary, and a valid travel document.
The researcher route is more generous than several other categories. Family members may join, and after completing the research programme the researcher may apply for a short permit to seek a job or start a business — a useful bridge if you want to stay on in Hungary.
If you have an offer from a host institution, securing the hosting agreement is the first step. ACME can review your documents and timeline and help your family plan their applications, and we recommend confirming the current requirements on the official portal before you apply.
