
Yes. The card can be withdrawn if you leave the EU for 12 or more consecutive months, reside outside Hungary for more than six years, or obtain long-term resident status in another EU country.
Long-term resident status is meant to reflect a genuine, ongoing connection to Hungary and the EU, so extended absences can cause it to be withdrawn. The card may be revoked if you spend 12 or more consecutive months outside the territory of the EU Member States, or if you reside outside Hungary for more than six years.
There is a more generous rule for those who held an EU Blue Card, who may be absent from the EU for up to 24 consecutive months. Acquiring long-term residence in another EU country can also end your Hungarian status. If you expect to travel or relocate for a long stretch, check the specific limits first so you do not inadvertently lose your status.
