The general validity is up to three years, renewable for further three-year periods. Longer validity applies for certain sponsors, for example up to ten years where the sponsor holds a guest investor permit.
For most sponsors, the family reunification permit is issued for a maximum of three years and can be renewed for additional three-year periods. The exact length is also capped by the validity of the sponsor's permit and of the applicant's passport.
Some sponsor categories give longer family permits: four years for EU Blue Card or Corporate Card sponsors, five years where the sponsor is a Hungarian citizen or EC permanent resident, and up to ten years where the sponsor holds a guest investor residence permit. Extensions are filed via Enter Hungary, generally 30 to 90 days before the permit expires.
