Once I have permanent residence in Denmark, can it lapse if I move abroad?

Permanent residence has no fixed expiry date, but it is not unconditional. It is meant for people who keep Denmark as their base, so extended absences can cause it to lapse.

If you expect to be abroad for a long period, you can usually apply in advance to retain your permit so it is not lost. Keeping a residence in Denmark and avoiding continuous absences longer than 12 months is the safest way to protect the status.
