The EU Blue Card is a route for university graduates meeting a salary threshold, with faster settlement, while the skilled worker visa also covers those with recognised vocational training.
The EU Blue Card is aimed at applicants with a recognised university degree who have a job offer meeting a defined salary threshold. Under the Skilled Immigration Act, those thresholds were lowered, including for shortage occupations.
The broader skilled worker route covers both academic professionals and people with at least two years of recognised vocational training. A major Blue Card advantage is faster settlement: holders can reach a settlement permit in about 21 months with B2 German, or around 33 months without that language level.
