Does the Danish spouse already living in Denmark need to meet requirements too?

Family reunification in Denmark places significant requirements on the spouse already resident in the country, not just the applicant.

The resident spouse must provide an independent, reasonably sized home that is not in a designated vulnerable area, must not have received certain social benefits within a defined recent period, and must meet integration criteria such as passing Prove i Dansk 3 or having substantial Danish-language employment. A recent conviction for domestic violence can disqualify a sponsor.
