What documents do I need to apply for the Hungarian EU Residence Card?

A complete EU Residence Card file includes your valid travel document, one facial photograph, evidence that you have accommodation and means of subsistence in Hungary, and proof of comprehensive health insurance or sufficient funds to cover healthcare. Since 2025 you must also include the Hungarian cultural knowledge exam certificate.

You will also need civil-status documents that apply to you, such as a birth certificate, marriage or divorce papers, and guardianship documents for minors. Foreign documents normally require an apostille (diplomatic certification) and a certified Hungarian translation. Applications are submitted through the Enter Hungary platform, and incomplete files lead to deficiency notices that delay the decision.
