You must meet at least two of four supplementary requirements: passing a higher Danish exam (Proeve i Dansk 3), having regular full-time work for most of the past few years, passing the active citizen exam or documenting active citizenship, or having an income above a set yearly level for the last two years.
These supplementary requirements sit on top of the basic conditions. Meeting at least two of the four is required for the standard eight-year route.
The four options are: a higher-level Danish language exam; sustained regular full-time employment (at least 30 hours a week) over a defined recent period; demonstrating active citizenship through the active-citizen exam or qualifying voluntary or organisational involvement; and an income threshold maintained over the previous two years. Meeting all four can shorten the residence requirement to four years.
