What happens to my Slovak EU long-term residence if I move to another EU country?

EU long-term residence status is designed so a person holds it in one member state at a time. If you obtain long-term residence in another EU country, your Slovak long-term residence will expire.

The status does, however, make it easier to obtain residence elsewhere in the EU for work, study or business, because your long-term status in one country streamlines applications in another. Plan any move carefully so you understand which status you will hold and avoid being left without valid residence in either country.
