As a general rule you should not have more than 450 days of absences over the 5-year qualifying period, and not more than 90 days in the final 12 months.
Excessive time abroad is one of the most common reasons naturalisation applications are refused or delayed. The Home Office will not normally naturalise someone whose absences over the five-year qualifying period exceed 450 days.
There is also a tighter limit of around 90 days of absence in the final 12 months before applying. These limits can be applied with some discretion, but you should track your travel carefully and be ready to explain any significant time spent outside the UK.
