How long is the Estonian family member residence permit valid?

A family member permit in Estonia is granted for up to five years initially, but it cannot exceed the validity of the inviting party's (sponsor's) residence permit. Extensions may be granted for up to ten years at a time, again capped by the sponsor's permit validity. Because the permit is tied to the sponsor, the family member's status depends on the sponsor maintaining their own valid residence in Estonia.
