When do I need to apply to extend my stay in Canada as a visitor?

To stay longer in Canada as a visitor, you apply for a visitor record. The application must be submitted before your current authorized stay expires.

IRCC recommends applying at least 30 days before your status expires. Applying on time means you keep legal status while a decision is pending, which is known as maintained status.
