Can I start working before my skilled worker permit is approved?

As a general rule you may not begin working in Norway until your residence permit has been granted. Starting work without authorisation can harm your application and your future immigration record.

There is an exception for skilled workers: if you meet the conditions, you can apply for early employment start, and once you receive confirmation from the police you may begin working while your application is processed. Do not assume you qualify automatically; wait for the written confirmation before starting.
