Your employment contract must be for at least six months. The card is issued for up to two years, or for the contract length plus three months if the job is shorter.
To qualify you need an employment contract of at least six months for highly qualified work. The EU Blue Card is then issued for a maximum of two years.
If your employment relationship is shorter than two years, the card is granted for the duration of the employment plus three additional months. This buffer gives you time to find new qualifying employment before the card expires.
