The Short-term study visa for English is specifically for an English language course that runs longer than 6 months but no more than 11 months. Courses of 6 months or less are covered by a Visitor visa, while courses longer than 11 months require a Student visa.

You can stay for the length of your course plus an extra 30 days, as long as your total stay is no longer than 11 months. The visa cannot be extended, so if you want to keep studying you would need to leave and apply for the appropriate visa for your next course.
