How long can I stay in Australia on a subclass 400 visa?

The Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) visa is designed for short, highly specialised work. The Department generally grants three to six months, and a longer period of up to 12 months may be considered where it is clearly justified.

The period granted is decided on a case-by-case basis and may be less than you request. A stay beyond six months is treated as exceptional, so you should be ready to explain why a longer period is genuinely needed.

Because the visa is built around short-term work, it is not intended for indefinite or repeated long stays. If your work is ongoing, a different visa is usually more appropriate.
