Generally two years after you first applied for the temporary and permanent partner visas, provided you still hold the subclass 820 and remain in a genuine ongoing relationship.
The onshore partner visa is a two-stage process from one application. After the temporary subclass 820, you are eligible for consideration of the permanent Partner visa (subclass 801) two years after you first lodged the application. You can check that date in ImmiAccount.
To be granted the subclass 801 you must hold the subclass 820 (or a Dependent Child visa subclass 445) and, in most cases, continue to be in a genuine and ongoing relationship with your sponsor. At the permanent stage you provide additional documents updating the Department on your relationship. If you are granted any other substantive visa in the meantime, you lose eligibility for the 801.
