A Standard Visitor visa normally allows a stay of up to 6 months in the UK. The visa is for short trips like tourism, visiting family, business meetings or short courses, and you are expected to leave before it ends.
Some situations allow a longer stay. People coming for private medical treatment, academics in certain roles, and a few other categories may be granted a longer period. If you hold a long-term visit visa (valid 2, 5 or 10 years), you can still only stay up to 6 months on each individual visit.
